A bit of brain science…

Our brains are amazing. Capable of more amazing things than we can possibly understand.

They’re also capable of much we do comprehend, not all of which feels so amazing.

For example, take the amygdala.

“When you feel threatened and afraid, the amygdala automatically activates the fight-or-flight response by sending out signals to release stress hormones that prepare your body to fight or run away. This response is triggered by emotions like fear, anxiety, aggression, and anger…[This] often results in a sudden, illogical, and irrational overreaction to the situation.”

The threats we experience don’t have to be physical dangers, however. Spilling coffee on your top when you’re already late, realizing you’ve missed an important call, frantic working to meet a deadline, arguments, social pressures, and so many other circumstances can cause an amygdala hijack & send us spiraling into irrational & uncontrollable head space that literally cuts us off from productive thought.

Ever felt like that???

Yup, me too.

The truth is all of us have experienced this at one time or another, but many of us experience this hijack more often than others because it is possible for the amygdala to be overly sensitive.

There is good news, though. There are things we can do to calm this response & stay in a more positive headspace that allows for better, more beneficial decision-making & and a more anxiety/trigger free life:
➡️ Consistent use of high quality CBD (which has incredible & lasting benefits to the brain far beyond keeping the amygdala calm)
➡️ The intentional practice of deep, belly breathing throughout the day
➡️ Taking quiet moments to be thankful & to simply be
➡️ Exercising to rid our bodies of toxins & excess energy that can often be converted to anxiety.
➡️ Learning our triggers & staying grounded in the present moment when they appear
➡️ Staying away from highly processed foods & high sugar treats
